Jubilee Sailing Trust
Founded in 1977 under the patronage of HRH The Duke of York, the Jubilee Sailing Trust was set up to give disabled people the opportunity to discover the thrill and adventure of offshore tall ship sailing as a member of a mixed ability crew.
The JST operates two beautiful tall ships, LORD NELSON and TENACIOUS, the only ships of their type in the world that were purpose designed and built to enable mixed ability crews to sail side by side as equals on year round voyages around the UK, Europe, the Canaries and the Caribbean.
The facilities aboard our two fully accessible ships represent over 30 years of experience taking people with physical disabilities to sea.
LORD NELSON and TENACIOUS have a host of special features that enable all crew members to take an active part in the running of the ship. Facilities on board include wide decks for wheelchair users, power assisted hydraulic steering for those with limited strength, a speaking compass to enable people with vision impairments to helm the ship, and much more.
Aboard our ships every crew member has a vital role to play irrespective of ability, disability, age or gender. The success of each voyage depends on teamwork and working to the best of individuals' strengths, not weaknesses.
For some, sailing with the JST is a fantastic adventure holiday but for many it represents a life changing experience, providing the opportunity to rediscover a sense of independence and freedom that may otherwise have been thought out of reach.
“50% of the crew may be physically disabled, 100% are actively involved. We believe that’s just the way it should be.”
